- Introduction

For the advancement of the horticulture industry and to cultivate experts who can improve the universal quality of life, the Horticultural Biotechnology major offers an education on the production of people-centric, high-quality, high-functioning horticulture plants. It aims to cultivate workers well-equipped for the future merging of ICT and biotechnology who can work in horticulture anywhere in the world. It fosters students’ creativity and desire to take on challenges through theoretical and practical training undertaken in research in several areas: technology for producing safe and healthy foods, physiology and cultivation of plants that are responsive to environmental changes, bioengineering-based breeds developed as highadded- value crops, theory and application of plants’ functional genomics and interaction with their environment, functions and molecular mechanisms of plant genes, manifestation/ control of genes related to plant metabolites, molecular breeding/application via gene-editing technology, creation of plant factories for plant production in an artificially-controlled environment, and gardening and urban farming for psychological healing and beautification.
